Ikenobo Headquarters is located next to the Rokkakudo Temple, birthplace of ikebana, in central Kyoto, Japan. The building is home to administrative offices for over 400 local Ikenobo chapters in Japan, and over 100 chapters and groups outside Japan.
Workshops held at Ikenobo Headquarters include courses for Japanese students who study each week in their home towns throughout Japan, and who come to Kyoto for advanced study. There is also an International Classroom for Ikenobo members from abroad.
Three large exhibitions are held each year in the Headquarters building, including the Hatsuike (marking the first ikebana arranging of the year on January 5th), the Spring Student Exhibition in April, and the Autumn Exhibition in November.
There is a store selling Ikenobo books, magazines, supplies, containers, and tools, the Museum of Ikebana (open by prior appointment, Monday through Friday 10 A.M. to 4 P.M), and a cafe where students and visitors can relax.
Visitors are kindly requested to call ahead to make appointments, especially if English assistance is required.
