1933

Born in Kyoto, first son of 44th Generation Ikenobo Headmaster Sen'ei Ikenobo.

1945

At age 11, took Buddhist vows and became 45th Headmaster upon the sudden death of his father.

1946

Student at Hiei Junior High School; began Buddhist studies on Mt. Hiei.

1953

Assumed position of Head Priest at the Shiunzan Chohoji Temple (Rokkaku-do).

1956

Graduation from Doshisha University, Kyoto.

1962

First trips abroad to promote Ikenobo ikebana, traveling to America, Europe, and Southeast Asia. Sen'ei Ikenobo continues today to actively promote Ikenobo ikebana around the world.

1971

Awarded the Dark Blue Ribbon medal by the Japanese Government. Awarded the "Orden Academico De San Francisco" by the Government of Brazil.

1974

 

First one-man show of ikebana at Tokyo Ginza Matsuzakaya Department Store.

1977

Created the Shoka Shimputai style of Ikenobo ikebana as a new shoka style to harmonize with contemporary life.

1985

Created huge ikebana work for the stage at the Tsukuba International Exposition, Tsukuba, Japan.

1994

Awarded the Southern Cross by the Government of Brazil

1999

Created the Rikka Shimputai style of Ikenobo ikebana as a new rikka style to harmonize with contemporary life.

2003

Arranged the first ikebana to be displayed within the walls of the Kremlin in Moscow, and demonstrated Ikenobo ikebana in Moscow.

2005

Exhibition of rikka and ikebana history at the Tokyo Nihonbashi Takashimaya Department Store, celebrating his 60th Anniversary as Headmaster. Exhibit visited by Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi.

2006

Received the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, awarded by the Government of Japan, for meritorious cultural contributions.
