Flower Offering Ceremony at Nishi Honganji

January 13, 2012

Flower Offering Ceremony conducted by Headmaster Designate Yuki Ikenobo was held at Goeido (Foundar’s hall) of Nishi Honganji temple, Kyoto, on Jan. 9, 2012, on the occasion of 750th Memorial for Shinran, the Buddhist priest who founded Jodo Shinshu Sect.

In the year 1201, Shinran, came down from Mt Hiei and meditated inside the Rokkakudo temple (located on the premises of Ikenobo Headquarters) for 100 days. The last four words of a Buddhist prayer were revealed to him in a dream, and this is said to be the origin of the Jodo Shinshu Sect of Buddhism.

Headmaster Designate Yuki Ikenobo is a vice priest of Rokkakudo temple and this was the first time that flower offering ceremony was held at the inner sanctuary of Goeido of Nishi Honganji temple. Yuki Ikenobo’s rikka arrangement will be displayed until Jan. 16, 2012.
