Ikebana International 11th World Convention was held from Apr. 12 to 15 in Ginowan city, Okinawa prefecture under the theme of “A garland of flowers, A ring of hearts, Encircling the world” at Okinawa Convention Center.

More than 1,000 members of Ikebana International from different schools and different countries had participated. They enjoyed the exhibitions and demonstrations by the Headmasters from 7 Ikebana schools.

 

On Apr. 12, the exhibition was opened with the ribbon cutting ceremony by Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado, Her Imperial Highness Princess Ayako of Takamado, the Headmaster Sen’ei Ikenobo, and the Headmasters of other 6 schools.

 

The Headmaster Sen’ei Ikenobo exhibited the grand Free-style arrangement using flower materials from Okinawa and, Her Imperial Highness Princess Hitachi, Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado and Her Imperial Highness Princess Ayako viewed the arrangement.

 

On Apr. 15, Ikenobo Demonstration by the Headmaster Designate Senko Ikenobo was held, in the cooperation of members from Ikenobo Chapters in Okinawa, youth members, children learning Ikenobo, director Taro Matsunaga and performance group “Yuibana”, they performed a moving demonstration in the combination of the characteristics of Okinawa. The demonstration in the harmony of Okinawan folk dance, Eisa, and the Ikenobo Ikebana was ended in a huge success with a big round of applause.
