Ikenobo Autumn Tanabata Exhibition, which is the biggest and the oldest ikebana exhibition continued from the Edo period, will be held with the theme of “Let’s ikebana”.

Creating ikebana, the everyday activities we had taken for granted, have now been threatened by Coronavirus not only in Japan but all over the world. Creating ikebana will bring our everyday life color. We will hold the exhibition with the wishes to let “creating ikebana” come back to life and make new normal life colorful.

We hope each branch and each leaf of ikebana will attract you, and then bloom a large flower in your heart.

 

Date: from Friday 13th November  to Monday 16th

Venue: Ikenobo Headquarters

The Closest station: Karasuma Oike station (Karasuma / Tozai Subway Line)

*note there will be no event at the Takashimaya Department Store this year.

Opening Hour: 10:00am ~ 4:30pm (close at 5:00pm)

*note we will close at 3:00pm (last entry at 2:30pm) on  Saturday 14th, and close at 4:00pm (last entry at 4:00pm) on Monday 16th.

Entry fees: ¥1,000 (tax included) *Free for children below high school age.

 

Highlight of the Ikenobo Autumn Tanabata Exhibition

 

Enjoy ikebana works created by the Headmaster, the Headmaster Designate and Professors from the Ikenobo Central Training Institute at Iemoto Dojo.

 

Ikebana work created by the 45th Headmaster of Ikenobo Ikebana Sen’ei Ikenobo, the Headmaster Designate Senko Ikenobo, the representative of Ikenobo Seinenbu (Youth Group) Ms. Mika Ikenobo, Mr. Senshu Ikenobo and Professors from the Ikenobo Central Training Institute will be exhibited at Iemoto Dojo, where the place regarded as a sanctuary of ikebana. Please enjoy the greatest work of Ikenobo.

Exhibition Contest

 

Ikenobo’s top inter-chapter ikebana contest will also be held during the exhibition. About 70 ikebana members, selected from chapters all over Japan, will compete in team and individual contests. All the works will be displayed with jurors’ comments attached to them. Those comments are also mast-see.

A large-scaled ikebana by Seinenbu

 

Seinenbu will display a large-scaled ikebana using bamboo and strip of papers which wishes from Seinenbu member all over Japan are written will be displayed on the work.

 

Creation: November 12th Afternoon

Exhibition Period: from November 13th to 15th (will be removed at 4:00pm of 15th)

You can see the photo of ikebana works and interview of participants via YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. It is not only for those who cannot come the exhibition, but you can enjoy the work closely even after your visit to the exhibition. Please enjoy the atmosphere of exhibition venue.
