The 30th Anniversary event of the Ikenobo New York City Chapter was held on October 15th and 16th, 2016 at Japan Society in New York. The celebration was a great success with a presence of the Headmaster Sen’ei Ikenobo, Ikenobo Headquarters Professor Shunso Kobayashi and Special Visiting Professor to North America Masakazu Nakamura. 39 members from the Chapters in Japan also participated in the events.

 

On October 15th, after the opening ceremony, the Headmaster viewed over 70 arrangements made by the Chapter members, giving comment and advice to each arranger. Mr. Koro Bessho, Permanent Representative of Japan to the United Nations, Mr. Reiichiro Takahashi, Consul-General of Japan in New York and Mr. Motoatsu Sakurai, President of Japan Society also attended and appreciated the arrangements.

 

The event was highlighted with the Headmaster’s lecture-demonstration, followed by Reishiki-ike ceremony performed by Prof. Kobayashi and Prof. Nakamura. The performance was appreciated by about 260 attendees.

 

On October 13th, members from North America enjoyed participating in the Rikka workshop conducted by Prof. Kobayashi and the Free-style workshop by Prof. Nakamura. All of the members learned the newest information of Ikenobo ikebana and had a delight conversation with the Professors and other participants.

 

On October 14th, the luncheon was held. In the luncheon, the Headmaster awarded the Ikenobo Award of Merit to two distinguished members and memorial plaque was presented to the Chapter. Members from Japan and New York enjoyed their conversation and strengthend their friendships.
