Nagoya Floral Exhibition (Matsuzakaya Nagoya Store):
Youth Association Group Production: “Tree Branch Folding Screen”

The Youth Association Corner of the Nagoya Exhibit followed Tokyo and Sapporo with the group creation of a “Tree Branch Folding Screen.” Like the previous exhibits, Senshu Ikenobo, Youth Assoc. Representative, lent guidance to the group to make a folding screen symbolizing the theme: “Feel the Tree, Stand in the Grove, Live the Forest.”

In Nagoya, 12 people participated in the creation, and the members from last year were joined by university students who were there for their first ever exhibition. They all got to know each other without worrying about age or experience through the group project.

The group was split into two teams for the project. There were a number who had not used tools before, but their teamwork shone through especially on the stringing work. By talking to each other and following the plan together they were able to finish everything on time.

Before starting the project they broke the ice by sharing their recent obsessions with each other. One person was fascinated at the hidden depths of making soba noodles, another talked about how they recharge with the music of XG (Xtraordinary Girls), another talked about the soothing power of a cello’s tones, and yet another talked about keeping their body in tune with Pilates. With their broad diversity of interests, the group worked together smiling all the while in the natural and amiable atmosphere.

After the work was finished, they chatted over locally made sweets and tea. They took time to reflect on their creation and complimented each others’ hard work. One of the participants even brought some of the famous Hida mitarashi dango to share, and the group was lively with conversation. In that amiable air their dedication for ikebana wove them all together as fellows.

Finally the day closed with the usual group picture with Youth Assoc. Pose. Choosing a new pose together each time, they commemorate their new friendships and their hard work.
